What usually goes wrong
The most common call we get is a refrigerator that runs constantly but will not hold temperature. Nine times out of ten that is airflow, not the compressor. A failed evaporator fan motor, a defrost heater or defrost thermostat that has quit, or an adaptive-defrost control board that stopped commanding a defrost cycle will pack the evaporator coil in ice until cold air cannot reach the fresh-food side.
Other frequent failures: a condenser fan motor that seized (the unit gets hot underneath and cooling drops off), a start relay that clicks and trips the overload, a stuck air damper freezing produce in the fresh-food compartment, a torn door gasket letting humid Tennessee air in, and a water inlet valve or clogged defrost drain leaving a puddle under the crisper drawers.
How we diagnose it
We start with the readings, not with a parts catalog. That means actual compartment temperatures, evaporator and condenser condition, fan operation, defrost-cycle behavior, and — where the board supports it — the manufacturer service mode and stored fault codes. On sealed-system suspicions we verify with gauges before saying the word compressor.
You hear exactly what we found, the price before we touch anything, and an honest repair-versus-replace opinion. On a nine-year-old unit needing a compressor and an evaporator, we will tell you to buy a new refrigerator. We would rather lose the job than sell you a repair that does not make sense.
Every style, every brand
We service standard freestanding units and the harder ones: counter-depth French-door models, built-in and panel-ready Sub-Zero, Viking, and Thermador, compact and garage refrigerators, and the through-the-door ice and water systems that cause half of all refrigerator service calls on their own. Samsung and LG refrigerators are our specialty — we work on more of them than any other appliance, and our vans carry the parts that fail on them.
If the problem is specifically the ice maker — no ice, small hollow cubes, a frozen fill tube — that is its own repair and we cover it in detail on our ice maker repair page.
