No heat, or heat that is wrong
On an electric oven, a bake element that has burned through is visible and simple. Less obvious is a failed oven temperature sensor: the resistance drifts, the control believes the cavity is hotter than it is, and everything comes out underdone. We measure the sensor against the manufacturer's resistance-versus-temperature specification instead of guessing.
On a gas oven, the igniter is the single most common failure in the whole appliance. A weak igniter still glows bright orange but no longer draws enough current to open the safety valve — so the oven looks like it is trying and never lights. Anyone who tells you the igniter is fine because it glows has not tested it.
Uneven baking and control faults
Uneven results usually trace to a convection fan that has stopped, a door that no longer seals because the hinges have sagged or the gasket is crushed, or a calibration that has drifted. Many ovens allow a calibration offset, and where a cavity is genuinely off by twenty or thirty degrees, adjusting it is a real fix rather than a workaround.
Control boards and touch panels do fail, especially after a self-clean cycle. Self-clean drives the cavity past 800°F and regularly takes out thermal fuses, control boards, and door lock motors. If your oven died right after a self-clean, tell us — it narrows the diagnosis immediately.
Wall ovens, ranges, and built-ins
We service single and double wall ovens, the oven cavity in freestanding and slide-in ranges, convection and steam-assist models, and built-in and professional brands including Wolf, Viking, Thermador, Dacor, Bosch, and Miele.
If your problem is on the cooktop surface rather than inside the cavity — burners that will not light, radiant elements that will not heat, an induction hob throwing a code — that is our range and cooktop repair page instead.
